American Express “Delta” Gold Skymiles Credit Card – 30,000 Bonus.
I have been getting some emails from readers who want to add a Delta rewards card in their app-parties….so here ya go. You know who you are.
The Gold Delta SkyMiles card from American Express comes with a sign-up bonus of 30,000 SkyMiles after you spend $500 in 3 months. I like that. This makes it a good option for people who aren’t able to meet big minimum spend requirements or for people who are applying for multiple rewards cards at once.

Other Perks
The annual fee is waived for the first year, so you won’t be paying an upfront fee for those 30,000 SkyMiles. The Delta Gold card also enables you to check your first bag free…..wait for it- and for up to 9 people on your reservation! I have never traveled with 9 people, but that would save you a ton of cash. Checking bags can be expensive. You know what? I hate paying to check my bags it infuriates me, but that’s another post.
You will also get priority boarding, that means you can get on the plane sooner. This helps you avoid the long line in the humid terminal and you won’t be searching for a place to stow your carry on. It’s always awkward boarding last on the plane and then trying to find a place to squeeze you bag into the an overhead bin. Now you don’t have to worry about that, you can watch other people deal with the awkwardness.
Here are the bullets if you prefer:
- Bonus Miles: Earn 30,000 bonus miles toward Award Travel after you spend $500 on the Card within the first three months of Cardmembership.
- Earn As You Spend: Get 2X miles on Delta purchases and 1X miles for all other eligible dollars spent.
- Check your first bag free on every Delta flight – that’s a savings of up to $200 per round trip for a family of four.
- Premium Travel Perks: Settle in sooner with Priority Boarding, and enjoy the skies with 20% in-flight savings to use toward meals, beverages, and movies awarded as a statement credit.
- $0 introductory annual fee for the first year, then $95.
- Terms and Restrictions Apply.
Delta SkyMiles
I wrote a couple months ago about how Delta SkyMiles can serve a purpose. Damn straight they can serve a purpose. They are great for close in award booking. Delta opens up some cheaper options the closer you get to a date and they don’t charge a fee for booking a close-in award ticket. Be warned existing Delta award tickets can be a B to change if you wait to too long (72 hours within departure).
Delta is also a transfer partner of American Expresses’s Membership Rewards program. Sweet. But what’s even more butter is American Express will often offer transfer bonuses to transfer Membership Rewards points to Delta. Major bonuses. That’s why you should be earning both Membership Rewards and Delta SkyMiles. If you don’t have a rewards card earning Membership Rewards points check out the American Express® Premier Rewards Gold Card.
My Final Thoughts
The Delta Gold card is a great rewards card for people who fly Delta….Obviously. I like the Delta Gold, because I’m smart and I diversify my Miles. I like options when it comes time to book an award ticket. And since American Express issues the Delta card it’s a nice break from Chase. This card is also packed with some respectable perks and the 30,000 SkyMiles sign-up bonus for spending $500 in 3 months is very nice.
