Citi Reduced Rate: Don’t Forget About Me.

If you hold a Citi AAdvantage card, you can book a domestic flight (land locked) for a 7,500 mile discount. It’s called the Reduced Mileage Awards program. I like saving me some miles. Kinda makes me hungry. But this is a great value. Each quarter, this discount is offered for select destination travel. For this second quarter, it’s offered for round-trip travel “originating in the 48 contiguous United States”. Here’s the deal:

  • You do have to call an AA rep to book, and there is a fee of $25/person. (You can always ask for them to waive the fee, but I wouldn’t count on it.)
  • You can book until June 30, 2012 for travel through June 30, 2012. To book, call AAdvantage Reservations at 1-800-882-8880.
  • This discount only applies to flights on American Airlines, American Eagle, or AmericanConnection.

I prefer to use Southwest and British Airways (partners of AA) for domestic flights, and save my AAdvantage miles for international travel. However, I took part in this miles discount last year when I went to see some family. It ended up costing me 35,000 AA miles for two roundtrip tickets. Not awesome, but not terrible either. Peak season is approaching, so this discount might help with some last minute travel.

Thanks for the reminder, I had forgotten about the reduced awards and I have about 90k miles—I don’t fly AA often because I have to drive 170 miles to an airport where they base.   BTW I have subscribed twice,  many months ago,to receive email of your blog but have never received it.

Hey David, I’m sorry about the subscribe issue. If you can send me your email I will manually add you. Also, try checking your spam box for the confirmation email. Sometimes they get re-directed to spam. Thanks for tuning in!
