Is The “Double Browser Trick” Dead?

In the last few years, people have been earning mega miles by applying for two personal Citi cards at once. However, in the last week, I received a few emails from readers who were denied for their second Citi HHonors or AAdvantage cards.

Of course this was a major bummer, but I didn’t think much of the loophole being closed. You never really know if someone applied correctly, or if their credit history is in good standing, etc., so I didn’t think much of it (besides being bummed that they weren’t approved).

However, after reading through the Citi Hilton HHonors and Citi AAdvantage threads on Flyertalk, its does appear some things are changing. Very sad face.

It appears that the method applying for two of the same Citi Hilton cards is dead, but some readers have had success applying for one Citi HHonors and one Citi® Hilton HHonors™ Reserve card. I haven’t tried this out, so I can’t confirm. And as always, ymmv.

Also, if you’re planning on going ahead with the Citi AA two browser trick, and you don’t get approved instantly for the second card, don’t call the reconsideration line unless asked. Based of the FT thread, most applicants are being turned down by reps instantly if they call.

Since a lot of readers take advantage of applying for two Citi personal card at one time, I thought you should know as a heads up. If you have any data points please leave them below. I’ll be uber sad if they are indeed d e a d.
