Is buying ever a good idea? For me, it doesn’t makes sense. I keep a nice stash of miles and points that covers all my travel needs, so I don’t ever pay for flight. However, the more I travel, the closer and closer I get to shelling out some cash for a short haul domestic flight. Although, it is hard to beat British Airways short haul flights on American Airlines. But that’s not what I’m talking about today. Wait, what am I talking about today? Oh yeah, the US Airways 100% bonus when you BUY miles.

This sounds all Kate Beckinsale like, but it’s really not that sexy at all. More Julianne Moore than anything. If you need to top off your US Dividend balance so you can book an upcoming award ticket, then this is a good deal for you. Also, if you are a road warrior and you pay for flights all the time, then it’s cheaper to buy the US Dividend miles here with the 100% bonus than to buy your US Airways tickets straight up.

The deal is from June 1 to June 30th, and you will get double the miles you buy. For example, you could buy 4000 US Airways Dividend miles for $140 and get an additional bonus of 4,000 miles. That’s 8000 miles for $140. Like I have said, this is an easy way to top off a balance, but other than that, it really doesn’t make sense. Man, I just got to thinking about how Julianne Moore ruined 30 Rock for me for a whole season. That Boston accent was hideous.

Anyway, don’t be deceived by the glamour of the 100% bonus. It can still make sense for some people, but for most noobs, it doesn’t.
