Update: Club Carlson Big Night Giveaway. Status Matched!

It’s not all rewards credit cards all the time round here. There are 3 combinable Club Carlson promos going on right now where you can earn close to 150,000 points. I have written about the “Big Night Giveaway” a couple times. Check it out below if you have missed it.

Status Matching

I love me some status matching! It’s free bennies in my mind. The way the status match works is if you hold elite status with a program, you can sometimes get another program to extend the same status with their brand. Or they will often give you a trial period with their program. Hyatt does this, and I was able to get 90 days of Diamond status bliss. The good news is Club Carlson is in the status matching game. It’s smart business in my mind, because they are stealing away loyalists of another program (kinda, in my case).

I have Platinum status with Priority Club and I received Platinum by…..wait for it….signing up for a r e w a r d s card. And as long as I hold the PC card, I will retain my status. Now Platinum status with Priority Club isn’t that great, but I was able to get Hyatt to match my status for 90 days. Those 4 suite upgrades were so worth it.

Since I’ll be staying in 3 Club Carlson properties for this promo (Radisson, Country Inn & Suites and Park Inn) and another night when I redeem my winnings from the promo, it made sense to see about a status match. I knew that Club Carlson had matched a lot of people’s status during the last promo last year, so I went for it. I emailed them at goldpointsplus@carlson.com and sent them in a screenshot of my Hyatt Diamond Status and Platinum Priority Club Status.

I just received my email back and this was their response:

Dear Mr. Whitmore,

Sweet. I got status matched to Gold status with Club Carlson. This means that I will earn 50% more points on the paid portion of my stay and an additional 2,000 points if I book online. The other perks seem to be so-so, but maybe I can stretch “best available room” into a suite upgrade.

Now that I have Gold Status, I’m ready to book my stay at the Radisson. There is one in downtown Austin that I will be taking advantage of. I’m not sure if I will actually stay there yet, because I live and work close to downtown and could easily check in and out without actually having to stay. I could do this on a Wednesday when the rate is lower, or I could just book a weekend night and stay there with the wife. Not sure what I will go with here, but neither is bad option when I will be earning over 50,000 Gold Points for my stay. I’m planning on using these points for a nights stay in a Radisson Blu property.

Then I will begin working on the other 2 Club Carlson promos. If you haven’t registered, hurry before it’s too late. If you are able to register, then you have until July 15th to book your stay.

Hyatt Platinum doesn’t come with 4 suite upgrades. I think you’re referring to Diamond status.

Right, I was able to get my PC Platinum status matched to a 90 day Hyatt Diamond trial. Sorry if it was confusing:)
